Due to cultural and language barriers and the fact that a large proportion is foreign born, most Chinese Americans remain dependent on their native language for information. Limited English proficiency is a significant issue among this population and the language barrier has been a hindrance to the assimilation of this group with mainstream society which influence their quality of life.

In order to address this urgent need and assist with provision of a culturally competent and linguistically appropriate care, the Community Service Coalition (CSC) is partnering with Chinese language media, community organizations, government and other civic and family associations to offer community education and outreach programs to Chinese Americans in New York City. Through a series of community events like health fairs, college fairs and educational seminars, media campaigns and special TV programs, these events and programs will raise awareness, deliver messages/info , help solve the problem and issue, bridge the gap and reach to Mandarin and Cantonese speaking New Yorkers.
